Chennai Goods Transport Association


Chennai Goods Transport Association (CGTA) established in the year 1972 by Stalwarts and Professionals from the industry to protect the interest and welfare of the member transporters. The prime objective of our Association is to cultivate a cohesive spriit of Unity among the Transport Operators, liason with the Government in framing various policy matters, to maintain harmonious relationship with the staff, labour unions and to carry out welfare activities for the benefit of the transport community. The members together own and carry out their business with around 15,000 HCV's / Trailers and more than 7000 LCV's.

The Constituents of CGTA are all the major transport and logistic companies, with a pan india net work and are affiliated to "All India Motor Transport Congress", the apex body of transport associations in India, having head quarters at New Delhi.

Most of the member companies are "All India" based, and they have a wide network of branches throughout the country. These companies operate with more than 15,000 vehicles. The members of CGTA provide direct and indirect employment to more than 2,00,000 persons.

The association, by itself, has got Office Bearers who are democratically elected and a total of 17 Executive Council Members includes a President, Vice-President, Hon. Secretary, Jt. Secretary and Treasurer form this active team.

There are other Office Staff who were directly employed with the Association as Employees to take care of day to day activities.

Today, driver shortage is the top-most concern for owners, including large fleet operators and single vehicle operators.

The goal is to protect the interests and welfare of transporters.

  • To represent all necessary matters with the Government and even with general public with a spirit of Unity and speak on and behalf of all member transporters in one voice.
  • To maintain harmonious relationships with Client, Staff and Labour unions.
  • To fight unitedly for justice of member companies on all matters which are considered to be genuine, reasonable and important.
  • To inculcate knowledge and professional ethics among all member companies, their staff by Counselling, Training and Development.
  • To resolve differences among Transporters and Market Truck Suppliers for common goal.
